Sažetak
The scale of development and design of future energy systems will influence the level and type of public participation in energy systems. At the moment, energy systems are in transition: where until now, the majority of energy was produced centrally, implying that energy users are merely passive recipients of energy, currently there is a push for decentralization, which implies more active role of energy users in energy systems. Decentralisation of energy systems presents a form of structural fix since it implies changes in structure of energy system. Stakeholders involved with energy transition are sometimes described as gatekeepers of change since they have the power to steer developments of future energy systems in direction which is aligned with their preferences. Objective of this study is to identify differences in stakeholders’ perspectives on the design and the role of energy users in future energy system with a special emphasis on decentralisation. Preliminary results of interviews conducted with stakeholders from Irish industry, civil society, business, academia, and energy users themselves will be presented. Also, plans for future research steps will be presented. In order to identify dimensions underlying stakeholders perspectives on decentralization, future research will involve Q methodological research design. Intention of that step is to contrast stakeholders’ perspectives based on certain beliefs (e.g. technological optimism) or public values for energy system such as efficiency, security, or social justice.
