Sažetak
Tourism income in Croatia accounts for more than 18% of total annual GDP. Situated along the eastern cost of the Adriatic sea, tourist activites in Croatia are mostly directly related to coastal part, although in the past several years continental tourism is ex- periencing notable increase. Most tourists visit our country in summe months (July and August). From an aerobiological point of view, the main potential cause of health issues in this period of year is ragweed pollen. In this study, we will present comparision of ragweed pollen season in two Croatian cities (Zagreb and Zadar) during the 2008-2017 period. City of Zagreb is the capital of Croatia situated in the outermost southwestern part of the Pannonian Plane. Zagreb is the largest Croatian city and the largest urban region situated 170 km from the Adriatic sea. City of Zadar is located in the central part of the eastern Adriatic coast and presents the urban center of northern Dalmatia with mild Mediterranean climate. Aerobiological samples were collected with Hirst- type automatic seven-day volumetric sampler at measuring stations in Zagreb and Zadar in the period from 2008 to 2017. Quantitative and qualitative analysis were maintaned by standard methodology recommended by EAN and REA. The purpose of this study is to determine differences in the characteristics of ragweed main pollen season, to determine the start and the end of the main pollen season, length of the main pollen season and date with the maximum concentration values in Zagreb and Zadar- geographicaly and climatologically different areas. The results show differences in total concentration of ragweed pollen grains in the studied areas and in the maximum ragweed pollen concentration during the study period. Obtained results can be very useful to tourists when planning their vacation. Based on them, they can easily prepare themselves for the ragweed pollen season and control their symptoms. Croatian Aerobiology Network also provides up to date pollen concentrations on mobile application , , Pollen forecast" (, , Peludna prognoza") for these two cities, and therefore allergy symptoms can be very well controled.
