Sažetak
Many industrial processes use large quantities of volatile, flammable and toxic organic solvents based on unsustainable resources such as oil, resulting in significant environmental and economic impacts. Over the past decade, natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) have become promising alternatives to traditional organic solvents from both environmental and technological perspectives and have been dramatically increasing in popularity. Besides green character, one of the distinctive feature of these solvents is the possibility to modify their structure in order to adjust their physicochemical properties for certain application. The possibility of their design for specific applications makes them very interesting for use in extraction of biologically active compounds from plant materials. On the other hand, food processing generates a substantial volume of solid organic by- products. Although they represent a rich source of bioactive compounds, only small amounts of these by-products are upgraded or recycled. Extraction techniques for such by- products for their evaluation and utilisation should be based on green and sustainable technologies. The aim of this study was to extract the polyphenols from grape pomace (agro-food waste) with NADES in a laboratory scale and scale-up of extraction processes, following the principles of green extraction. Green extraction method for polyphenols from grape pomace was developed on a bigger scale with efficient recyclation of NADES, as a first step towards the implementation of this method in industrial scale.
