Sažetak
Alternative energy resources are significantly less harmful on the environment. But, in most cases, during their use none the less important is the fact that they are not entirely clean option. The problem in the use of wood biomass as a renewable energy source is the byproduct: wood biomass ash produced during energy production in the power plants. Without proper disposal of the wood biomass ash, it can have negative impacts on the environment and health. According to existing data, the use of forest biomass results in large amount of wood biomass ash. This large amount of biomass use as a renewable energy source, requires sustainable management of by-product. One of possible solution is the wood biomass ash use as mineral additive in concrete production. The aim of this paper is to determine the influence of wood biomass ash on concrete properties when it is used as partial replacement of cement binder. For laboratory testing, different concrete mixtures were prepared to replace portland cement with different amounts of wood biomass ash ; 5%, 10% and 15% per mass of cement. This paper presents results of mechanical, deformational and durability properties of concrete made with wood biomass ash in different amounts per cement mass. Wood biomass ash used for laboratory testing was collected from electrostatic precipitator of a biomass co- generation plant located in Croatia.
