Sažetak
Neodelphineis indica is a pelagic araphid diatom described from the warm waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. These lightly silicified diatoms are characterized with non- aligned striae across the sternum, two rimoportulae and a single, small, unoccluded pore at each end of the valve. Here, we provide new and complementary morphological observations on the species, collected from different locations: the Adriatic Sea, where it was recorded for the first time, and the Pacifi c Ocean from the Mexican coast. The basic morphology described in our specimens confirms previous observations, but we also detected morphological variability in shape, valve length and chain formation. The finding of the species in the Adriatic Sea rises questions as to its presence there, as it may be well considered as an "invasive" species, arriving to the area as a consequence of the "tropicalization" of the Mediterranean Sea.
