Sažetak
Places are sources of identity for every single living being, and thus the importance of adequate experiencing, creating and maintaining the spirit of every single place is vital. Unfortunately, not many people are aware of this importance, and what is even worse, this goes for architects and town planners, too. The results are all these numerous placeless places that represent the weakness of distinctive and diverse experiences of places. The existing planning process and misunderstanding the importance of identity of and with place, undoubtedly lead to rootlessness. Looking for the bids from the past and tradition in vernacular planning in Croatia, through my professional work, I am in constant search for these relevant settlement identity elements. The main analytic cornerstone was in defining three types of boundaries that would help in understanding the place within the natural, cultural and built environment. However, there is no place on the earth that could live upon a nice view, only. The planning methodology we are trying to introduce deals with steps prior and after the plan is passed by local government. The first results showed it was the right direction.
