Sažetak
BackgroundCroatia has a long tradition of community pharmacy practice, with the oldest pharmacy in Trogir dating back to 1271. The most famous historically significant pharmacy was founded in Dubrovnik in 1317, and since then it has been continuously operating.MethodsThe Croatian Pharmaceutical Society, the oldest national professional association in Croatia, was the main organizer of the Symposium held to mark this jubilee. Significant international pharmacy professional associations (International Pharmaceutical Federation and Pharmaceutical Group of the European Union) recognized the importance of this anniversary and the Friars Minor Pharmacy.ResultsThis pharmacy developed gradually within the Franciscan Monastery in Dubrovnik, from a cabinet with dried plants, over medicines prepared under the influence of alchemy, up to today&rsquo ; s contemporary pharmacy. The pharmacy still cherishes traditional secret prescriptions of Franciscan pharmacists and prepares worldwide-known galenic preparations. Natural cosmetic preparations, without synthetic additives, are especially famous.ConclusionDuring the Symposium, numerous lectures on the early history of the Friars Minor Pharmacy and health culture in Dubrovnik were presented. The role of the Franciscan Monastery and Dubrovnik's pharmacists and their humanitarian work during the Croatian Homeland War in the early 1990's was emphasized.ReferencesM.
