Sažetak
Three particular points of interest were selected for discussion: two substantial and one of methodological nature. Firstly, how to conceptualise the construction and maintenance of boundaries, secondly what are the possibilities in approaching their enormous multiplicity in Istria, and thirdly, what research philosophy would be optimal in this incipient phase of inquiry. The incipient research question would be: how the boundary maintenance mechanisms relate to the existing core. Boundaries are defined as symbolic, the core is defined as the 'social cobweb of meanings' and mentalities.
