Sažetak
Short review of raw materials used for composite development, plywood technology and smart textiles description presented as a part of the European project MAPICC 3D training sessions and review meetings funded under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission is described in this project overview. Textile reinforced composites are used in transport industry mostly to replace metal parts in vehicles due to their low mass and high mechanical properties. Important issue nowadays is the re-use of waste carbon fibres, fabrics and composites. A small number of recycling processes is still available in industry and only a few companies have found ways to recycle carbon materials. Research centres and academic communities try to solve this problem and to give adequate response in accordance to the European Union end-of-life directives. Smart textiles are expected to play a significant role in the European textile sector and help textile industry in its transformation into a competitive knowledge-driven industry.
