Sažetak
Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are often characterized as green solvents as they perfectly comply with the principles of green chemistry concept. These mixtures of different hydrogen bond donors (HBD) and hydrogen bond acceptors (HBA) are easily prepared from biodegradable, non-toxic components, simply by mixing them together and heating until a liquid forms. Due to the vast variety of components, both HBDs and HBAs, and their mixing ratios, a numerous DESs can be synthesized. Those parameters also influence their physical and chemical properties, and this is the reason why they are also referred to as a designer solvents. The focus of our investigation are DESs based on choline chloride as HBA, combined with different HBDs, such as urea, thiourea, different sugars or sugar alcohols, carboxylic acids, etc. Choline chloride based DESs have been found to be very effective in synthesis of different heterocyclic compounds within our research. So far we successfully applied this approach in synthesis of a series of coumarinyl Schiff bases from 2-((4-methyl-2-oxo-2H- chromen-7-yl)oxy)acetohydrazide and different aldehydes. Furthermore, a series of 3- substituted 2-thioxo-2, 3-dihydroquinazolin- 4(1H)-ones was synthesized from anthranilic acids and different isothiocyanates. In continuation DESs were successfully utilized in acetylation of amines, coumarin derivatives’ synthesis via Knoevenagel condensation as well as Knoevenagel condensation of rhodanine, and 1, 3-thiazoidine-2, 4-dione with different aldehydes.
