Sažetak
From the standpoint of sustainability, an increase of the consumption of renewable resources is a key factor to preserve the natural resources. Concrete is the most usable material for structural elements, and the major contributors to the concrete volume are natural aggregates. A significant amount of natural resources can be saved if recycled aggregates from construction and demolition waste (concrete, bricks, tiles, ceramics, wood, glass, tire, bituminous mixtures, plastic) can be used in concrete industry. This paper presents an overview of the previous studies carried out on the use of recycled aggregates (recycled concrete, brick and rubber) as partially or fully natural aggregate replacement in concrete mixtures and in concrete elements. The effects of recycled aggregate on compressive strength and modulus of elasticity for materials, flexural strength and shear strength of structural concrete elements were reviewed. According to the literature review, recycled aggregates can be used for structural elements with limited replacement percentage and mandatory use of additives.
