Sažetak
Giuseppe Michele Stratico (1728-1783) started to form his theoretical thinking within the Paduan theoretical school. The first authority he referred to was his teacher Giuseppe Tartini, but he was also influenced by another composer and music theorist - Francescantonio Vallotti. Stratico’s major work as a music theorist is Trattato di musica (preserved in several versions in Biblioteca Marciana in Venice) in which he presented his musical system as a contribution to the comprehension of music as a science. In this paper I will offer a comparative study of Stratico’s theory with Vallotti’s, as presented in his work Della scienza teorica e pratica della moderna musica (1779). To demonstrate the relation between the two, I will examine in which aspects Stratico’s thinking coincides with Vallotti’s and in which their thinking differs. I will also try to determine if and where in Stratico’s theory Valotti’s authority come to the fore. The themes of particular interest will be the basis of their systems, the notion of consonance and dissonance, and the formation of the diatonic scale.
