Sažetak
This thesis is about materials and strategies promoting learners’ self-esteem in teaching English as a second language. It deals with the definition of self-esteem and what it consists of. Also, it gives a description of students with a high level of self-esteem. It goes on to describe situations that cause low self-esteem with school students, and strategies to prevent them from even happening. Self-esteem can be defined as the ability to be competent to cope with every challenge in everyday life. It is a person's overall emotional evaluation of their worth. It is a judgment about yourself, as well as attitudes towards yourself. If a person’s attitude towards him/herself is positive, this person has high self-esteem which means success in every area of his7her life. This thesis presents analyses of coursebooks and workbooks for the third and eighth grade regarding their potential for developing learners’ self-esteem.
