Sažetak
Microchip electrophoresis (ME) is a miniaturized mode of capillary electrophoresis (CE). In this study we introduced a home–made compact and rugged low–cost instrument with high throughput. New ME instrument with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detector (C4D) was applied for the separation of two physiologically important imidazole dipeptides – carnosine and anserine. Imidazole dipeptides perform multiple biological functions: pH buffering, membrane–protecting activity, anti-oxidation, anti-glycation, and anti-aging. These remarkable substances have a broad therapeutic area of applications. Standard addition method was used to determine the accuracy and precision of the method. The method was also applied to real meat samples originated from different animal species. The proposed ME method represents a cheap, fast, and simple alternative to the existing HPLC methods. This method can also be applied to test the presence of animal proteins in vegetable feeds and identification of animal species included in meat products ; and subsequently, it could be used in a food fraud prevention process.
