Sažetak
Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are mixtures of two or more components based on hydrogen bonding interactions between hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) and hydrogen bond donor (HBD). Different combinations of HBA and HBD groups may affect the physicochemical properties of deep eutectic solvents which define their application. Their favorable properties such as low melting point, negligible vapor pressure, non-flammability, possibility of reuse as well as easy and cheap synthesis from non-toxic and biodegradable compounds make DESs acceptable as selective solvents in extractive desulfurization and denitrification processes of liquid fuels. In this work, DESs with propylene-glycol (PG) as HBD group were selected and the influence of the type of HBA group (betaine and choline chloride) on denitrification and desulfurization process was investigated. For this purpose, [betaine – propylene glycol, 1:3.5], (B – PG), and [choline chloride – propylene glycol, 1:3], (ChCl – PG), were prepared and their complete characterization at 25 °C and atmospheric pressure was performed. Extraction experiments were done at the same conditions, as well. Results show that the extraction efficiencies of B-PG 1:3.5 exhibit higher values than that of ChCl-PG 1:3 for every tested mass ratio of DES/model gasoline solution, both for the denitrification and desulfurization. Consequently, B-PG 1:3.5 is considered as a better solvent for denitrification and desulfurization.
