Sažetak
Given the ever-emerging trends in teaching, deriving from the constructivist theory of teaching and learning and promoting the active role of learners in the learning approach, future teachers at all levels of education need to be trained appropriately. At the Pedagogical Faculty in Maribor students of primary education are offered a course Environmental and Social Studies outside the classroom which aims to acquaint students with the basic characteristics of teaching and active learning outside the classroom and enable them to transfer these characteristics to practice. The purpose of our research was to explore whether excursion form of field work, as one of the possible forms of active learning outside the classroom, influences the improvement of students' factual knowledge. In the empirical research, carried out in March 2018, 45 students participated in the pedagogical experiment. The results showed that after the final examination participating students had better results than in the initial examination of the knowledge before the excursion, as they achieved a higher result for all tasks. Furthermore, students with higher results at the beginning of the pedagogical experiment achieved higher results also after the excursion, therefore the excursion had a positive contribution to improving their factual knowledge.
