Sažetak
Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are regarded as Central European and Mediterranean countries, but can be regarded as belonging to the Danube region as well, which in traffic and strategic sense of connecting the Danube basin and the Adriatic opens extraordinary possibilities for them. A long-term, systematic connection of the Pannonian and the Adriatic part of the Croatian and Bosnian-Herzegovinian region has to be defined so that its position could become more prominent, mainly for two reasons: - internal linking of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, - international linking of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and thus enabling the transit and the connecting of the Central European and Pannonian region with the Mediterranean To optimally fulfil these goals it is necessary to theoretically organise the traffic strategy over the longer period of time and to start fulfilling it gradually. Combined transport (river traffic &#8211 ; ; ; ; land traffic &#8211 ; ; ; ; sea traffic) with the usage of the geotraffic advantages can be best achieved by building the multipurpose canal &#8220 ; ; ; ; Danube &#8211 ; ; ; ; Sava&#8221 ; ; ; ; from Vukovar to Šamac, and by canalising the river Sava from Šamac to Sisak. With establishment of the good connection to Ploče, and from Sisak, Karlovac and Zagreb to the Kvarner bay and Rijeka harbour, these can become the top-quality connections between the Danube basin and the Adriatic, i.e. the Mediterranean. These are the reasons why a future canal &#8220 ; ; ; ; Danube &#8211 ; ; ; ; Sava&#8221 ; ; ; ; should be given due attention in all traffic development plans of the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the aim of urgent construction.
