Sažetak
Glioblastoma multiforme is the most common and deadly type of brain tumors. Its metastatic potential relies on high levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that degrade the extracellular matrix and basement membranes to promote cancer invasion. Although the role of MMPs in cancer is well established, little is known about the effect of chemotherapeutic drugs on their expression and activity. SAHAquines, novel structural analogs of SAHA and primaquine, are lipophilic weak acids found in lysosomes. Lysosomal exocytosis plays a role in cancer drug resistance. Data from our pilot studies suggest that one of the SAHAquines reduces the viability of A1235 glioblastoma, but its effect on lysosomes and MMPs has not been explored.
