Sažetak
The intention of the paper is to put the critical overview on many unparalleled contributions of William J. Morgan's work, over 40 years long, in the field of the Ethics in/of Sport. Author has singled out four most important ones. Firstly, Morgan has involved Alisdair McIntyre's distinction between social institutions and social practice in sport, as well as associated distinction between external and internal goods in the sport. Morgan finds them both crucial for the conceptualization of sport as a social practice with special internal values, specific logic, formal rules and the striving for excellence. Secondly, Morgan has detected penetration of the market economy in sport and commodification of sport as the main threat to the integrity of contemporary sport - it’s essence, purpose, and value. Moreover, he has proposed a solution to it. Thirdly, he has developed and introduced the Historicistic Conventionalism based on the Ethnocentrism and Communitarianism, as the normative background for the moral conduct in sport, as well as the healthy foundation for building every future Ethics of Sport. Finally, through his books, he has largely contributed in establishing the contours of the Ethics of Sport and influenced the widely excepted division of the discipline in six main fields: Competition, Cheating, Fairness, Doping, Gender, and Social Issues.
