Sažetak
The possibility for a gradual integration of railway passenger transport into the public urban and suburban traffic (PUST) of the city of Rijeka has been considered, i.e. the integration of Rijeka PUST into the PUST system of the Republic of Croatia. The analysis and evaluation of the current situation in the Rijeka city transport, with an obvious collision between the public traffic and the passenger cars traffic which interfere with both transport modes, the introduction of a rail high-quality and independent route would undoubtedly improve the quantity and thus also the quality of the already existing city bus system. It is important to note that new external routes of the Rijeka ring-line and the Rijeka level line should be accepted, and the whole section of the processed route should be freed and obtain its real technologically, organisationally and technically completely new purpose. The long-term concept of development should take into account the special location, i.e. separation of, first of all freight, and then also long-haul and international passenger transport, of a route redesigned for fast urban railway, and with construction of the second track, by selection of new cars, traffic management method and construction of new stations thus achieving full quality. The modern construction design of the profile in cuttings and notches, city tunnels, the line would not interfere with transversal traffic routes, and even new city parking lots would be constructed, which are so much needed in the town.
