Sažetak
Benefits are indirect compensation element that has many goals, some of which are showing employees that company cares for their personal needs as well as to secure attractive and competitive total compensation package. Given its growing costs in the total pay, and taking into account doubt that has been cast on its motivational potential, the aim of this research was to investigate the role of perks and benefits in HR-related activities and organizational outcomes in Croatian setting. A comprehensive empirical research was conducted on the sample of 56 middle and large-sized Croatian companies. Research results revealed that certain types of benefits, which are usually highly valued by employees, are almost non-existent in Croatian setting. Additionally, the incidence of different types of perks and benefits differ across company settings related to size, industry and establishment age. More importantly, companies that apply certain types of benefits reported fewer problems in attracting and retaining employees, however, the number of such benefits is negligible. Finally, it was revealed that companies applying certain types of benefits have better productivity. Theoretical as well as practical implications were discussed in the paper.
