Sažetak
Objective – The paper studies the interaction and synergy of small entrepreneurs (cooperation), as drivers of development based on the data – information – knowledge transformation process, in innovating a destination’s tourism offering and value chain. The aim of value-chain innovation is to valorise natural preconditions in generating competitive advantages based on innovation. Design – Research is based on theoretical and applied approaches (the Opatija Riviera) to determining the creation of information and knowledge at the levels of both small entrepreneurship and the destination as key resources in optimising the value chain and creating new value and experiences for tourists. Synergistically, it brings together knowledge creation and exchange, stakeholder integration and value-chain innovation for the purpose of improving the offering of the Opatija Riviera. Methodology – The paper is based on a multidisciplinary approach to build upon existing theoretical determinants of the research subject (the respondents’ interpretation and perception of key concepts and present and future interaction) and the integration of knowledge creation and exchange and value-chain innovation in the synergistic development of both small entrepreneurship and the destination, and its applicative approach is based on in-depth interviews with, and surveys of, small entrepreneurs of the Opatija Riviera. The study analyses the interdependence and impact of knowledge management (data collection and information and knowledge generation, knowledge transfer and implementation) and stakeholder integration (stakeholder involvement, knowledge exchange) on value-chain innovation. Based on the respondents’ perceptions, considerations and thoughts about the present and the future, the objective is to improve the model of creating and exchanging information and knowledge as a continuous process, with emphasis on valorising information and knowledge to optimise both the value chain and the development of the destination. Approach – The paper explores the importance of information and knowledge in developing entrepreneurial activities to create new forms of the offering which will evolve into key destination products and brands. Theoretical determinants are applied to the usage of knowledge in developing small entrepreneurship and tourism in the Opatija Riviera. Results – Results are based on the analysis of the current situation and on improvements to the model of creating and transferring the knowledge of small entrepreneurs. The limitations of the research refer to the propulsive and dynamic area of the research topic, which requires continuous further research, as well as to the small sample of respondents and to their inadequate responses. Originality of research –The research explores the creation and transfer of knowledge at the levels of both small entrepreneurship and the destination, in optimising the value chain and creating innovative services and facilities based on a proactive and predictive approach, in the dynamic conditions of the tourism market.
