Sažetak
This paper provides a methodology for researching hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) that include modeling, simulation and optimization. The simulation process identified HRES individual components operations with selected combinations of certain parameters (capacity, size) during different operating modes over a period of one year, based on the selected operational strategy by which the HRES is defined as a stand-alone source of sufficient heat and AC/DC load for an energy independent household in the Mediterranean climate (Split). Operation of HRES consisting of different components has been analyzed. Common components of all systems are photovoltaic panel PV, wind turbine WT, heat pump HP and thermal storage TS. The electrical heat pump is used for space heating/cooling with the possibility of using waste heat for the DHW preparation, with deferrable electrical consumption of HP compressor (smart grid / deferrable load). Multi-objective optimization was applied on each HRES configuration with different energy storage (only in the battery, only H2 tank or storage in both the battery and H2 tank). The optimized HRES need to meet two objective functions: the size of the system components covering the default power and heat profile is minimal, and produced excess heat is minimal, In the hybrid system with H2, the amount of produced H2 is consumed only for fuel cell operation, i.e. no excess energy is stored in the form of H2, which is also the third objective function. Selected objective functions were disregarded in previous papers and research of stand-alone hybrid systems of various authors, in which the excess produced heat was rejected into the environment and the surplus of hydrogen produced was used to power a fuel cell vehicle.
