Sažetak
This review outlines the possibility of utilization of paper for recycling in different processes. Paper for recycling is mainly used for production of recycled paper, and in the last decade for cellulose derivatives and bioethanol. Production of recycled fibres from paper for recycling using conventional chemical flotation deinking process is the most used method worldwide and therefore, the most described. In addition to flotation, enzymes, ultrasound, and adsorbents are promising methods, but their applications in paper recycling facilities are still limited. The efficiency of these processes mostly depend upon the interactions between papers and printing inks. The presence of printing inks residuals in recycled pulp can cause problems related to health safety due to presence of toxic components. Moreover, effluents from paper recycling are influenced as well by the raw materials used for recycling, resulting in high organic loads. Collected paper for recycling is sometimes contaminated with food or it is wet, thus other methods are recommended, such as bioethanol production and organic recycling. Energy recovery via pyrolysis, gasification and combustion are also recommended, but only in the case if the produced heat is used for other applications. In order to choose the most effective waste management method, life cycle assessment (LCA) can be used, but in different studies, the main drawback is missing the information related to presence printing inks in paper for recycling. This literature review shows that the influence of the most common non- fibrous materials in paper - printing inks, on the process efficiency of mentioned methods is poorly described.
