Sažetak
Migrations are a dynamic and constant category of every national economy. However, in Republic of Croatia the end result of domestic and foreign migrations are as well as negative population growth present a worrying trend. The goal of this paper is to analyse migration trends, with special emphasise on emigration within counties and emigration abroad. Furthermore, considering the existance of exceptional regional imbalance within Croatia, this paper analyses migration trends towards more developed areas within Croatia which consequently lead to further centralization. Considering methodology, this paper uses secondary data from Croatian Bureau of Statistics. Further research should take into consideration longer observation and monitoring time periods as well as the need to determine reasons (including financial reasons, administrative obstacles when starting a business, educational reasons, insufficient possibilities for creating a future for oneself, etc.) as an incentive to participate in migrations. This research is important for the long-term sustainability of both regional areas and national economy ; not only in economic but many other contexts such as demographic and social development. It is important to emphasize that migration movements present both a threat and an opportunity at the same time, so modern national economies need to carefully and timely create specific policies which can influence those migrations.
