Sažetak
This paper deals with the initiation of small cracks in a carbon steel under fatigue loading, as well as with the influence of overloads on the crack initiation phase. A micro-model containing the microstructure of the material is generated using the finite element method and the according non-uniform stress distribution is calculated afterwards. The number of cycles needed for crack initiation is estimated on the basis of the Tanaka-Mura model. The analysis yields a relationship between the crack growth rate and the crack length together with the influence of overload on the relationship.
