Sažetak
The leachate from the municipal solid waste of landfill Bikarac in Šibenik-Knin County, Croatia was studied in order to determine its physico-chemical characteristic and pollution potential according to Croatian law. The obtained results, pH=8.5, BOD5/COD=0.098 and high concentrations of ammonia and total Kjeldahl nitrogen characterized leachate as stabilize/old with high content of non- biodegradable matter. The calculated leachate pollution index (LPI) of 16.626 shows that the landfill leachate is relatively stabilized. The existing treatment of leachate using sequencing batch reactor is discussed in relation to landfill leachate characteristic.
