Napomena
The thesis is a study of the largely unknown, uncontextualised and unanalysed manuscripts of oral literature from the Križevci region, collected in the 19th century. It studies the records chronologically, starting with the first known oral-literature record of the Križevci Statutes from the early the 19th century to the last collection of folklore material from the Križevci village of Dubovac taken down by Marica Križe at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. The study and scholarly evaluation of the material shows that the Križevci region had its own collectors of oral literature in the 19th century, which was when most oral literature inCroatia was collected. They mostly wrote down poems, encouraged by material published by individuals and institutions important in the whole ofCroatia or following their own affinities in oral literature, resulting from the atmosphere surrounding the awakening of national consciousness at the time of the Croatian National Revival.Oral literature from the town of Križevciand the Križevci region was also collected in response to the incentives of Bishop Maksimilijan Vrhovac and Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski, Matica hrvatska and the Committee for Folk Life and Customs of what was then the YugoslavAcademyof Sciences and Arts. A body of about fifteen longer or shorter manuscripts was collected during the 19th century. This shows that the Križevci region, previously not well known for oral literature, fully responded to all the incentives concerning oral literature made in the 19th century.
