Sažetak
Elizabeth Kotromanic (c. 1339 - 1387), was Queen Consort to King Louis I (Louis the Great), King of Hungary and Croatia (1342- 1382), and later Regent of her daughter Mary (1371-1395), Queen of Hungary and Croatia (1382-1385). In July 1377 Queen Elizabeth commissioned a sarcophagus-shaped casket, made of gilded silver, for the body of St. Simeon the Prophet. Amongst several votive gifts that were placed inside the shrine couple of years after it was finished was also the one presented thoroughly in the talk. It is a shawl-shaped object, of white linen fabric (woven in plain tabby), hemmed in red silk and partially heavily embroidered. It had been laid onto the Saint's body and had been commonly believed to have belonged to the Queen Elizabeth herself. There were no in-depth studies of this piece and has remained unfamiliar to the scholars abroad. Croatian (art) historians traditionally refer to it either as to "Queen’s veil" or "Queen’s kerchief". Aside from the thorough analysis of the object and its embroidered, typically Gothic profane ornaments, the talk addressed the question of its original purpose (was it really a headpiece, a kerchief, or actually an another part of the attire?) as well as the previously unresolved matter of its true owner and maker.
