Sažetak
Esophageal squamous papilloma (ESP) is a rare benign neoplasia. Only few cases in children have been reported. ESPs are usually solitary lesions, found in the distal esophagus [Picture 1]. ESP is related to an underlying inflammatory process in the esophagus caused by gastroesophageal reflux (GER), trauma, chemical irritants, or viruses (human papillomavirus, HPV). Malignant alteration is rare. We aimed to report a case of ESP in a girl with an eating disorder and clinical course during 9 months of follow-up. The histopathological examination revealed mucosal polyploid tissue without dysplasia suggestive to the ESP.Biopsy and histologic assessment should be carried out in a case of suspicious mucosal lesion.During EGD, a smear of esophageal mucosa was collected at the resection site.Genotyping of HPV DNA 14 most common high-risk types ; 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, 68) was negative. In the case we presented, the lesion was probably caused by GER. Although, trauma due to nasogastric tube or undetectable HPV infection could not be excluded. Diagnosis of this rare entity remains challenging
