Sažetak
The purpose of this paper is to present the long history of Catholic faith in Croatia as well as the significance of Marian shrines and pilgrimages for the faith and identity of the Croatian people. The focus is put on the National shrine of Our Lady of Marija Bistrica as a symbol of the Croatian national identity. Its history, spiritual and cultural heritage best reflect the significance of Catholic faith for the life and identity of Croats.
