Sažetak
Rural tourism is an industry that is recently becoming an increasingly important topic. Th e Republic of Croatia is among countries that are placing a strong emphasis on tourism as a strategic industry that can improve the country’s economic results. Although rural tourism can be connected with different ways of spending free time in rural areas, it is usually defi ned as use of rural space in the context of the tourism. Eastern Croatia, especially Slavonia and Baranja, have all the necessary natural resources for the development of rural tourism, which could also be connected with tourism that is already well developed on the Adriatic coast. However, despite rich natural resources and incentives provided for the purpose of rural tourism development (both on national and regional level), the results are not so promising. In order to fi nd out what is necessary for stimulation of rural tourism in Osijek-Baranja County, a detailed analysis of the business ecosystem has been done. Business ecosystem, as a relatively new term, defi nes all the stakeholders, as well as market contexts that can allow or restrict entrepreneurship. Further development of rural tourism is therefore strongly connected with the business ecosystem and its attributes: leadership, network density, government, talent, support services, engagement, companies and capital. In order to check the stage of development 1637 INTERDISCIPLINARY MANAGEMENT RESEARCH XIV of the business ecosystem of Osijek-Baranja County, secondary data (yearend reports, publications and webpages) will be used. Th e results should provide an overview of the business ecosystem factors that strongly influence development of rural tourism in Osijek-Baranja County.
