Sažetak
Oraclum Intelligence Systems (OIS) is company that uses data from social networks and analyse this information with the help of big data software toward prediction of election outcomes and to discover patterns of consumer behaviour. Company’s election data analysis has successfully predicted outcomes of Brexit and USA presidential elections. Precisely, company analysts correctly predicted all the key swing states (Pennsylvania, Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio), and even predicted that Hillary Clinton could get more votes but lose the electoral college vote. OIS was founded by Croatian scientists Dejan Vinković, Vuk Vuković and Mile Šikić and their products are: Bayesian Adjusted Social Network (BASON) Survey, Wisdom of Crowds (WoC) Survey and Data Science. This paper presents the case study of OIS in the context of company’s successful and very accurate prediction of the results of Brexit and Trump victory and answers the question of how OIS used Big Data in research and why its research method was more successful than of other poll agencies. Considering recent disclosure of Cambridge Analytics’ Big Data misuse, the paper also focuses on methods of protection from similar misuses, particularly in the context of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) entry into force.
