Sažetak
Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that has similar properties to fossil fuel and can be used in internal combustion engines which, because of its biodegradability and non-toxicity, is categorized as green fuel. From an environmental point of view, biodiesel is not so green, given that today's production is based on a chemically catalyzed transesterification reaction. The negative impact on the environment of such production is reflected by the generation of large quantities of wastewater and high energy consumption. Today, great efforts have been made to find new greener and environmental friendlier technologies for biodiesel production. Last few decades, the possibilities of implementation biocatalysts in biodiesel production through various bioreactor systems have been considered. In addition to the enzymes, current biodiesel production may be greener, using renewable raw materials such as inedible oils, waste/by-products from the food industry: oil cakes, waste cooking oils, grease trap waste from restaurants and other facilities, waste from meat and fish food industry, available for deployment into existing and/or new biodiesel production technology. Short overview of the possibility to use the waste/by-products from food industry in biodiesel production catalyzed by lipase will be presented.
