Sažetak
Artistic garment design and construction deal mostly with collections for women of medium, tall or short stature. Big series of clothing articles are usually manufactured within this range, as most of the population is of medium stature. However, there is a (small, usually) group of women of extremely tall or short stature, who can hardly find garment to fit them. Obviously, if a collection was produced encompassing these persons’ requirement, it would most certainly be a market success. Basic rules of women’s body proportions are obtained by comparing medium tall women of medium stature, with extremely tall or short women. Medium stature is thus regarded as a referral stature for too tall or too short persons. Three basic planes of human body under right angle to each other are essential for artistic design and construction. These are front, central and transverse planes. Transverse plane is the key one for investigating women’s body proportions, as it defines the waist, breasts and hips. If the planes are, through improper garment selection, too much stressed, they migrate visually and the ratio among body parts is changed. It means that some parts of the body can be visually accepted as too long or too short, meaning transverse plane of the waist is positioned either too high or too low. It is evident that stressing or avoiding to stress visually transverse planes can either make the body taller or shorter, depending what stature is in question. Using these rules in artistic garment design and construction a number of disadvantages can be turned into advantages, to be used in making ladies’ collection, and to be able to meet diverse wishes and requirements of end-users.
