Sažetak
Systematic exercise has a pozitive effect on all aspects of health and the overall good functioning of the soldier. There are several different motives that inspire a person to physical activity. The aim of this paper was to determine the motivational structure for physical exercise and its association with some aspects of satisfaction and of psychological and physical health in different categories of members of the army. The survey was conducted anonymously in 2015 at the Croatian Military Academy and included 295 (61 F, 221 M) participants of five different levels of military education (junior and senior cadets, 1st level and two groups of 3rd level of officer education – staff personnel and command staff). A questionnaire is composed of questions about motivation for physical exercise (a adjusted MPAM- R questionnaire), a scale of life and work satisfaction, and questions about the symptoms of physical and mental health, fitness tests achievement and type and frequency of physical activity. According to the factor structure of the MPAM-R questionnaire (6 factors) and the satisfaction scale (4 factors), statistically significant differences in the motivational structure of the different categories of participants were obtained. Motives for excersise of cadets and participants of officer basic course are apperiance and excitement. There is a different motivation of older and younger cadets. There is no difference between gender. Statistically significant correlation between some factors of satisfaction, health difficulties and motivation for physical exercise was found.
