Sažetak
The book covers the origin, structure and activities of the one of most famous units of the Independent State of Croatia Armed Forces. It's consisted of the eight chapters which follows this unit from formation till its tragic end in the city of Stalingrad. Chapter 1: Formation and Organisation. This chapter explains the cause and reason for formation of the Croatian Legion, how the regiment was organised and the regiment's structure. Chapter 2: Training in Döllersheim and Departure for the Ostfront, covers the training in Reich and the problems with discipline which occurs during a long march towards the battlefield as well the Regiment's first contact with the enemy at the village of Stary Sanzhary. Chapter 3. Poltava – Kharkov. Extensive cover of the 369th Reinforced (Croatian) Infantry Regiment units combats actions during the first battle for Kharkov as well of the 100 Leichte Infantierie Division, to which the regiment has been subordinated. Chapter 4. Soviet Winter Offensive. Cover the Soviet countermeasures during the winter of 1941/42 and regiment participation in this battles, first on the river Mius and then in Barvenkovo-Lozovaya operation. Chapter 5. Operation Fridericus. Soviet and German armies spring operations in the year of 1942 and the regiment role in stopping the Soviet breakthrough towards the Kharkov. Chapter 6. Operation Blau I (Braunschweig). Start of the German great offensive and pursuit along the river Don. In the Soviet attempt to stop this advance regiment was committed to some of the fiercest battles so far. Because of considerable casualties regiment was reformed. Chapter 7. Stalingrad. Very detailed covers of the regiments combat actions in the one of the most famous battles of the World War 2. Chapter 8. The Regiment is Disbanded. What was happening with the regiment and the men after the battle for Stalingrad. Attached to the book are 10 appendixes: Officer Staffing Roster (Stellenbesetzung) for the regiment and the Aritllerie Abteilung, Officer Biographies, Medals and Orders, Medal Recipients, Replacement Battalions of Inf.Rgt.369., Reinforcements for the Legion on the Eastern Front, Combat and Ration Strengths, Casualties and German Liaison Staff. These appendixes are fine addition to the book and they contain lots of information about regiment structure, organisation and various faiths of the men from regiment.
