Sažetak
The paper gives major characteristics of the seiches in the Adriatic, particularly of the first mode, by analyzing hourly data collected at 6 tide gauges in the period 1986-1997. The first seiche mode is the strongest one, having range (double amplitude) up to 1 m on the top of the North Adriatic. In addition, it never exists with the annual maximum amplitude lower than 17 cm. Moreover, it appears together with the residual (detided) sea level maximum on annual scale in 40 % of the cases in the North Adriatic, thus it contributes greatly to the flooding occurring there, while its impact is lowering towards the South Adriatic.
