Sažetak
Steaming of beech wood is one of the most commonly used process of equalizing colors in the wood industry. Besides the color equalization, it has been noticed that the steaming also stabilizes the final product (solid wood panels). The beech elements used in this study have been steamed for a period of 9 and 40 hours. For bonding strength and durability analysis, PVAC adhesive and PU adhesive were used. The tests for bonding strength have been made according to the EN 13354. The samples have been treated prior to the testing according to the first part of the standard, i.e. immersion in the water at 20° C for a 24-hour period. The durability of the bonded joint has been tested according to the standard ISO 6238. The samples have been treated prior to the testing with two methods. The first one was a method according to the standard ISO 9412-cycle D6, and the second one was a method that simulate possible moisture content changes. The bonding strength results show the existence of steaming process influence on the bonded joint. Short exposure decrease bonding strength and longer exposure to steam increase bonding strength. From the given results and statistical analysis, it has been concluded that prolongation of the steaming period, also increase the durability of the bonded joints.
