Sažetak
Nutrition is one of the unavoidable topics when teaching a foreign language to children of an early age. It is a common theme in English textbooks for the junior grades of primary school and acts as a foundation for conducting various activities such as rhymes, memory and guessing games as well as categorisation activities. These activities are particularly suitable for the acquisition of new vocabulary and solidyfying the vocabulary already acquired, thus contributing to the development of the communicative competence of junior grade pupils. The topic of nutrition is also appropriate for the development of the intercultural competence as it can be used to compare the nutritional habits and specialties of English-speaking countries with those of the native culture. This paper proposes innovative class activities which, by stimulating all the senses (vision, hearing, smell, taste and touch), help pupils learning English at an early age to develop their communicative and intercultural competences.
