Sažetak
The paper researches university students ´understanding of the controvery raised by the publication of Garth Williams´s The Rabbits´s Wedding. Research conducted amongst students of primary school education on the possible assoication of black and white (the coulours of rabbits in thew picture book) with colours of human skin indicated that in most cases students did not perceive the association.The issue of race did not appear to be as relevant in the Croatian context as it has been in the USA.Picture books can thus serve as a valuable source of educating children about societal norms and practices and encourage adults to disseminate ideas of tolerance and instill in children the awareness and acceptance of cultural differences.
