Sažetak
The little known Crucifiction in the Tuhelj parish church is a unique specimen of Augustinčić's realigious sculpture, especially considering his propensity for monumental sculpture. The work dates from 1941, the begining of World War II in Croatia and expreses his gratitude to the church for having saved of a human life. On the one hand this is an exceptional work because Augustinčić rarely dealt with religious subject. On the other hand it is an organic part of his ouvre because it follows one of the main lines of his development - zhat of expressive realism. The Crucifiction has found its place in contemporary Croation sculpture thanks to it strongly expressive modeling and even more its composition. The inner tension of it s surface, the dramatic modelling of the body, and the play of light and shadow are well attuned to the theme of Christ's death as a simbol of universal suffering as well as to the mystical Gothic atmosphere of the church with wich the Crucifition seems to have established an emotional and stylistic correspondance.
