Sažetak
The influence of physiological stresses and pathophysiological factors significantly enhance expression of Heat shock proteins (hsps) in different cellular compartments. Hsps keep intracellular proteins in favorable conformation (chaperone function), but also minister degradation of unfolded, irreparable proteins using proteasomes. Hsps-peptide complexes could be released in extracellular space after cell damage or death, where they mostly serve as highly immunogenic proteins and/or allergens. Hsp-peptide complexes are recognized, internalized and presented in the context of MHC class I and MHC class II molecules to CD8+ or CD4+ T cells, respectively, inducing immune response. Additionally, hsp/peptide complexes engage pro-inflammatory NF-kappa B signaling in antigen presenting cells, characterized by induction of cytokine and chemokine secretion, triggering innate immunity by NK cells.
