Sažetak
The first step in the process of ship automation was automation of individual processes, e.g. propulsion, loading, navigation etc. Second step is integration of these processes. Final goal is a remote controlled ship from the shore, which is still far away because of technological, organization and security problems. The trend towards more extensive and frequent communication and sharing of information between ship and shore. That process could be facilitated through standardized ISIT protocol of data integration that we expect very soon. This paper covers content of ISIT, but also gives the automation concept of a whole shipping company through CIM, as different approach to integration of shoreside and shipboard information. In the second approach the exchange of information is not a problem itself, because it is just an essential part of the automation process. Introduction of MITS as standard protocol in maritime automation and ship networking forwards to ITSOP concept. In both approaches concept of distributed computing network (LAN and WAN) is an essential way of communication. Integration of such distant data sources is possible over mobile telephone or satellite networks. Communication programs on market are divided in three service categories: private-domain systems, public-access systems and integrated ship management solutions.
