Sažetak
Meeting the world population's energy demand still depends to a great extent on fossil fuels ; however, renewables are penetrating steadily and at an increasing pace the global energy market. Analyzing the renewable options currently are available in the market, it becomes clear thatthere are some technologies, like wind energy and photo-voltaics, which have become true success stories, there are other ones, like solar thermal or small‐scale hydro electrical plants, that have met success, but with significant potential for expansion and there are others, like concentrated solar power plants or fuel cells, which are still quite expensive and with an overall efficiency that needs to be improved. Furthermore, even in the most successful renewable energy technologies, the issues of dispatch-ability, of storage and of improved availability have still to be addressed in a cost‐effective and efficient way, to ensure desired their stronger propagation.
