Sažetak
The term competence has been interpreted as an ability, capacity, efficiency, proficiency, skill and cognizance (Weinert, 2001). In a wider sense it includes a combination of knowledge, skills, beliefs, and personal characteristics required that an individual operates in a particular situation professionally and effectively. Kurz and Bartram (2002) consider competences as measurable work habits that help in achieving goals and highlight that they are focused on high work efficiency. Music teachers’ competences can be seen through their professional, pedagogical, psychological, and didactical skills (Kostović-Vranješ and Ljubetić, 2008). Professional music teachers’ competences include the conversance and understanding of music as a phenomenon throughout history from the artistic, aesthetic and philosophical views, comprehension of musical constituents, elements, forms. They are expected to be musical, to skillfully interpret instrumental and vocal music, to write, compose and arrange music. Teachers should also have a broad range of pedagogical-didactical skills in teaching, planning, assessment, communication and interaction with pupils. Except the above- mentioned, they should be skilled in Information and Communication Technology and aware of social, cultural and political factors that influence their work, then be familiar with the characteristics of pupils’ intellectual and emotional development. Not least, music teachers should think about pupils’ general and musical culture: about the quality of the music works they offer to pupils, about the songs to perform, and how music lessons affect their lives and raise their musical competence. The intention of the author is to analyze the professional competences necessary for being a music teacher in regard to the activities during a music lesson (singing, playing, listening to music and musical creativity), and concerns which arise from them. The outcomes will be derived from the analysis of document, practical experience and interviews with music teachers.
