Sažetak
Based on archival research the author will present the process of registration of private art collections after the Second World War and the establishment of the Federative National Republic of Yugoslavia, and reveal the fate of the special category of so-called „private collections of public interest“ within the new Yugoslav legal system which created a framework to transfer private property into stateownership by confiscation, expropriation and nationalisation. The author will also consider the formation of some of those art collections on the Croatian/European art market.
