Sažetak
As the demands of modern mobile networks grow, so does the need for the introduction of new and more advanced network architectures. The Long Term Evolution is on such architecture that provides more capacity and bandwidth to users striving to get more out of its multimedia possibilities. One such multimedia service is the IP Multimedia Subsystem, which provides an all IP coverage throughout the whole network. This means that by abandoning the circuit-switched networks the data throughput can completely orient towards the packet-switched data model. That way a more flexible and stable architecture can be developed for further usage. A large part of providing the users with advanced services comes down to profile handling. That’s where the main point of this thesis comes into play. The Home Subscriber Server and the Diameter protocol both server to provide user profile handling in the IMS. As both of them depend on various condition of the network, it is normal to expect varying results of profile handling, based on the situation of usage. That’s why a measurement was made in an ideal case and in industrial conditions. Both result cases provided their own results and conclusion. The Open IMS provided a safe and stable testing environment in which there were no interferences. Through the tests ran here, diagrams were made containing message traffic intensity and response time differences. Through those results an ideal case of Diameter protocol usage was established. This comes in handy when comparing them to a real testing case in order to predict interference impacts. The industrial test environment provided a real-life scenario where the network traffic was open to various transmission interferences. Through those interferences a more realistic representation was made in order to simulate how the IMS handles problems on its own end, rather than depending on third party solutions. After comparing both of the results with various network parameters and interferences, the Diameter protocol came through as an invaluable addition to the profile handling solution. Along with its expanding capabilities and flexibility, it is sure to make an even bigger impact during further development of the LTE networks.
