Sažetak
The software-defined networking (SDN) concept is a network architecture that is imposed as a solution to problems that arise in tradition network architectures. The main idea represented by the SDN compared to the traditional network architectures is in the SDN architecture, the control and data planes are decoupled. Separating the control plane from the data plane is achieved so that network devices such as routers and switches are losing their responsibility of network control, they only need to listen and perform actions coming from the centralized SDN controller. By separating these two layers centralization of the network is achieved. It means that is easier to introduce a static quality of service policies in the whole network. The SDN controller takes care of all the hardware specifics of individual devices in the network (access point, router, switch, etc.), while the user is using the model of abstraction that comes down to defining business relevant, business irrelevant and default applications. Applying SDN to WAN networks, simplifies the task of static QoS, which is filtering traffic by category to which it belongs, and the implementation of pre-defined QoS policies for that type of traffic. Cisco APIC-EM is an SDN controller developed for local and wide area networks. Using the SNMP and the CLI allows APIC-EM controller to work with legacy Cisco products, making it easier to move from traditional distributed network to a software- defined network and thus the application of QoS policies. The APIC-EM controller has built-in applications which make it easier to manage an SDN network, and a support for third-party applications, by using the open REST API for communication between applications and the controller. One of the built-in applications is EasyQoS, which is developed for analysis and managing static and dynamic monitoring of quality of service in SDN networks. This master thesis is based on the collaboration project between Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Combis d.o.o. Goal of the project was to develop an application which consists of several software modules with various functions for easier network administration. For the practical part of this master thesis, a QoS module has been developed that is used for analysis and managing of static quality of service and simplify the translation of existing QoS policies in traditional networks into QoS policies that are adjusted for the APIC-EM controller i.e. software-defined networks.
