Sažetak
Ecology and ecological standards emerged and developed as a social response to the dangers facing the environment. Ecological standards are considered to be a part of the total quality management system. Ecological standards, form an essential part of all definitions of quality today: quality of products and services, quality of all human activities and ultimately the quality of life. Ecological standards are aimed at preserving the nature and humans and their private and professional life, since humans are a part of the nature as a whole. Hotel industry is showing ever bigger conscience about its impact on the environment. As a demonstration of the emergence of new attitudes there are numerous ecological standards that are adopted by the hotel companies. Among most important ecological standards are standards of energy and water consumption and treatment. The rising costs of energy and water treatment have encouraged business to move towards greater efficiency in both resources. This paper reports on the conclusions of a study that analyzed the energy and water consumption and related cost of a Croatian hotel company over a 20 year period.
